Instrument Readiness and Sequenced Programs
Music Makers: At Home
Ages 4-5
In Music Makers: At Home, your child will be engaged in activities that establish a solid music-making foundation. This year focuses on your child’s fascination with nature and develops a love of instruments. Your child will be introduced to the sounds of orchestral instruments individually, and then in the context of an ensemble. Such a listening foundation will lead to long-term success with music reading in future classes. This program begins to explore written notation, as well as develop beginning piano coordination and technique through short pattern pieces.
At the end of this one-year program, your child will be well on their way to music literacy and instrument readiness.
Having built a strong aural understanding, they are now ready to go more in-depth in…
Music Makers: Around the World
Rhythm & Roots 1
Cycle of Seasons
Ages 3-5
Celebrate your preschooler’s growing independence and love of the outdoors in “The Cycle of Seasons”, a Musikgarten curriculum. Developed to build attention and self-expression, activities include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement, and storytelling. The Cycle of Seasons nurtures your growing child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within a musical context.
This class is for both children and their parents, with each class, featuring learning opportunities to help further your child’s love and natural aptitudes for music, along with activities that can aide in developing oh-so-important fine motor and pre-reading skills!
Rhythm and Roots
Ages 6-7
Rhythm and Roots is a special 2-year combo program for young beginners ages 6-7 without any prior music experience, and 5-year-olds who have completed Music Makers: At Home.
We believe that basic piano experience leads to playing other instruments with ease. For this reason, this program combines the content of Music Makers: Around the World, Music Makers: At the Keyboard Books 1 and 2, and exploratory instruction on ukulele, drums, guitar, and bass, and other instruments into 4 semesters:
R&R 1A: British Isles Unit and the 1st half of Keyboard 1R&R 1B: Germany Unit and the 2nd half of Keyboard 1 R&R 2A: Amerindian Unit and the 1st half of Keyboard 2 R&R 2B: African-American Unit and the 2nd half of Keyboard 2
At the end of this 2-year program, students' hard-earned success can be continued with the following options:
Keyboard Book 3 (Accelerated Piano Path)
Foundations 1 (Casual Piano Path)
Early Entry to group guitar, voice, or percussion (Typically for ages 9+)
Private Lessons on an instrument of your choice
Music Makers: Around the World
Ages 5-7
This is our music readiness course, which students under age 7 are required to take before beginning formal lessons on an instrument
In Music Makers: Around the World, your child will explore the music of the British Isles and Germany in semester 1, and Amerindian and African-American music heritage in semester 2.
They will learn songs, dances, stories, rituals, and customs of these cultures to help them feel and understand others around the world. All in the meantime, we will be working hard and diving deep into these songs through part-work in ensembles, recognizing tonal and rhythmic patterns by ear and notation, and continuing our coordination and technique skills at the piano.
At the end of this one-year program, your child will have a comprehensive music foundation and will be ready for…
Storytellers (Casual Piano Path)
Music Makers: At the Keyboard - Book 1 (Accelerated Piano Path)
Private Lessons on an instrument that is not offered in a group setting
